November: Month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory / Update

From Fr. John Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionary:

PLENARY INDULGENCE

An indulgence that can remove all the temporal punishment due to forgiven sin. No one but God knows for certain when a plenary indulgence is actually gained, because only He knows whether a person's dispositions are adequate. One norm for such dispositions is that "all attachment to sin, even venial sin, be absent." If these dispositions are in any way less than complete, the indulgence will only be partial. The same provision applies to the three external conditions necessary to gain a plenary indulgence: sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Pope. If these conditions are not satisfied, an otherwise plenary indulgence becomes only partial. These conditions may be satisfied several days before or after the performance of the prescribed work, though preferably Communion should be received and the prayers offered for the Pope on the same day as the indulgenced work. A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day.

From the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter’s Holy Cross Chaplaincy:

Six General Rules for Obtaining a Plenary Indulgence

  1. State of grace…when performing the indulgenced act

  2. Complete detachment from sin, even venial sin

  3. Confession (20 days before or after the indulgenced act)

  4. Communion (20 days before or after the indulgenced act)

  5. Prayers for the Supreme Pontiff (20 days before or after the indulgenced act)

  6. Indulgenced Act: a special good work with…conditions of place and time

Indulgenced Acts to be Performed for Obtaining a Plenary Indulgence for the Poor Souls of Purgatory

  • From November 1 to 8: visit of a cemetery with mental prayer for the poor souls

  • On November 2: visit of a church or an oratory with one Our Father and one Creed being recited

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

On the 21st, we honor the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (her own presentation in the Temple with Saints Joachim and Anne). On the 26th, we celebrate Christ King of the Universe in the new calendar. This is also the last Sunday of the liturgical year. This month’s trad calender: calefactory.org

UPDATE: I will be taking this month off from the blog. See you in Advent!

DNA Contamination in Covid Shots: Very Serious Problem / Thoughts for the Day

“Our blindness is monetizable by anybody who doesn’t suffer from it. To the extent that we are slowed down in realizing what is taking place, other people will have placed bets and they can transfer our wealth by knowing what…events are going to take place.”

“The word that we need to focus on is ‘counter-intuitive.’ In the circumstance where you are being presented a false dichotomy…the same puzzle that humanity has faced for centuries, and you’re about to do it again and you know that it’s a cycle that doesn’t go anywhere good, and is only getting more dangerous based on new weapons…you can be certain that the right move is going to involve a healthy dose of the counter-intuitive. You’re gonna have to think some thought that sounds wrong at first. You’re gonna have to make some move that people are gonna swear is immoral or unbearably dangerous…You’re gonna have to do something unexpected to break out of the trajectory…”

bret weinstein

…or maybe in our case, with the illumination of the Holy Ghost, the word is intuitive. Not to toot my own horn, but I never thought for a moment that those Covid shots were at all safe…and have you seen the recent reports of DNA contamination? (see links below)

Words from Saint Paul for our Times

The Armor of God

The breastplate of justice

The shield of faith

the helmet of salvation

the sword of the spirit

“Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints…”

Ephesians 6:11-18

International Week of Prayer & Fasting

2023 Theme: Miracles of the Eucharist

“The 31st annual International Week of Prayer and Fasting for our nation, leaders, families, and the Church will take place Oct. 20–28…” READ MORE from Catholic News Agency

This devotional week overlaps with the National Eucharistic Revival. It is exactly 9 days, so praying a novena would be most appropriate. If you are not participating in a structured event, please consider how you may celebrate and honor the Most Holy Eucharist in this penitential week for our Church and our world so much in need.

Don’t worry if you’re a bit late in the novena, God understands!

+++ Rest in Peace, Roy Thomas Richter +++

[Edited since posting.]

Roy T. Richter, was found dead at McDowell Park in Ardsley, NY (not in his home, as the media has reported), last Tuesday, October 3rd, the traditional feast of Saint Therese. He was a New York City cop’s cop who became an attorney and continued to support the police force and assist the city he loved his entire life.

I knew him, since we had a shared aunt on opposite sides of the family. He was a unique and beautiful soul. I am deeply sad. He has left behind a wife, 3 daughters, and a 99 year-old father, who is a former NYPD high level officer, also named Roy Richter. His funeral Mass and burial is today.

Whatever you can do during this Month of the Holy Rosary, I implore you to pray for his soul and his family.

Eternal rest grant unto Roy, O Lord

and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Amen.

Feast of Saint Therese

Today is the feast (in the new calendar) of Saint Therese of Lisieux, the “Little Flower of Jesus,” a Carmelite nun. She died at the young age of 24 and has received the extraordinary honor of “Doctor of the Church” for her writings. She is one of only 4 women to have been given this distinction.

Saint Therese, Pray for Us!

October is the Month of the Holy Rosary & Respect for Life

The first week of October is jam-packed with amazing feasts.  October 1st is the new feast of Saint Therese and the 3rd is her trad feast.  The 2nd is devoted to the Holy Guardian Angels, the 4th is Saint Francis of Assisi, the 5th is Saint Faustina Kowalska (stay tuned for a post on our recent visit to the Divine Mercy Shrine) and the 7th, Our Lady of the Rosary.  On the 11th, we have the Divine Maternity of Our Lady & Saint John XXIII, 20th Century Pope.  The month goes on:  13th-Anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima (not a feast), 16th  & 17th (new/trad)-Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, 18th-Saint Luke, 22nd-Saint John Paul II, another 20th Century Pope, 24th-Saint Raphael the Archangel, 28th-Saints Simon & Jude, 29th-the traditional CHRIST THE KING and the 31st-All Hallows’ Eve, beginning the Triduum of Death.

Don’t forget the wonderful November plenaries the first week of November.  Your departed loved ones will be eternally grateful!

In the last of the Marian Triad of the Months, we honor Mary under the title Our Lady of the Rosary…so important is this great devotion!  Through Our Lady of Fatima, we know the Holy Rosary is the antidote to these unprecedented times of evil.  One of the worst of these evils is the sin of abortion and all of the offenses against human life which are becoming more prevalent in a post-Christendom world.  One of Our Lady’s requests at Fatima was the recitation of the Rosary daily.  She saw what was coming upon the world and this great meditative prayer was given to us to obtain mercy and mitigate these evils.  Let us pray the Holy Rosary for the sanctity of life this month and encourage others to do so as well.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!

O Lord have mercy upon the world for its crimes against Thee and humanity!

Most Holy Trinity, deliver us!

Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary with PDF

September 15th, from the Tridentine Mass:

There stood by the cross of Jesus,

His mother, and His mother's sister Mary
of Cleophas, and Salome, and Mary
Magdalen.

Woman, behold thy son, said Jesus.
To the disciple…Behold thy mother.

O God, at Whose Passion, according
to the prophecy of Simeon, a sword of
sorrow pierced the most sweet soul of
the glorious Virgin and Mother Mary:
mercifully grant, that we who with
devotion honor her Sorrows, may
obtain the happy fruit of thy Passion.

Sorrowful and tearful art thou, O Virgin
Mary, standing by the cross of the
Lord Jesus, thy Son and Redeemer.

O Virgin Mother of God, He Whom the
whole earth containeth not, the Author
of life, made man, beareth this
anguish of the cross.

Alleluia, alleluia.

Holy Mary, Queen of Heaven and Mistress of the world,
stood by the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, sorrowing.

+++ sequence +++

At the cross her station keeping, Stood the mournful Mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.
Through her heart His sorrow sharing, All his bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword had pass'd.
Oh how sad and sore distress'd, Was that Mother highly blest,
Of the Sole-Begotten One!
Christ above in torment hangs, She beneath beholds the pangs,
Of her dying glorious Son.

Is there one who would not weep? Whelmi'd in miseries so deep,
Christ's dear Mother to behold.
Can the human heart refrain, From partaking in her pain,
In that Mother's pain untold?
Bruis'd, derided, curs'd, defil'd, She beheld her tender Child,
All with bloody scourges rent.
For the sins of His own nation, Saw Him hang in desolation,
Till His Spirit forth He sent.

O thou Mother font of love! Touch my spirit from above,
Make my heart with thine accord.
Make me feel as thou hast felt, Make my soul to glow and melt,
With the love of Christ our Lord.
Holy Mother pierce me through, In my heart each wound renew,
Of my Savior crucified.
Let me share with thee His pain, Who for all my sins was slain,
Who for me in torments died.

Let me mingle tears with thee, Mourning Him who mourned for me,
All the days that I may live.
By the Cross with thee to stay, There with thee to weep and pray,
Is all I ask of thee to give.
Virgin of all virgins best, Listen to my fond request,
Let me share thy grief divine.
Let me to my latest breath, In my body bear the death,
Of that dying Son of thine.

Wounded with His every wound, Steep my soul till it hath swoon'd,
In His very Blood away.

Be to me O Virgin nigh, Lest in flames I burn and die,
In His awful Judgment day.

Christ when Thou shalt call me hence, Be Thy Mother my defense,
Be Thy Cross my victory.
While my body here decays, May my soul Thy goodness praise,
Safe in paradise with Thee.

+++

Remember, O Virgin Mother of God,
when thou standest in the presence of
the Lord, that thou speak good things
for us and turn His wrath from us.

We offer Thee prayers and sacrifices,
O Lord Jesus Christ, humbly
entreating that we, who commemorate
in our prayers the piercing of the most
dear soul of blessed Mary, Thy
Mother, may, through the multiplied
intercession of her and of her holy
companions under the cross, by the
merits of Thy death, receive our
portion with the blessed.

Happy the senses of the blessed
Virgin Mary, which without death
earned the palm of martyrdom
beneath the cross of our Lord.

May the sacrifices of which we have
partaken, O Lord Jesus Christ,
devoutly celebrating the piercing of
Thy virgin Mother's soul, obtain for us
with Thy clemency the effect of every
salutary benefit.
Amen.

Pray with your Family or Church Group during this Month of Our Lady of Sorrows!

22 Years: 9/11 Prayer, Song, Scripture, & Meditation

Light a candle and pray with your family, sometime this week…

O Most Holy Trinity, we light this candle for all the victims of that terrible day, 22 years ago.  We pray for those at the World Trade Center, including the 2 planes, those at the Pentagon, including the plane, and those on the plane in Pennsylvania.  We pray for the first responders who gave their lives.  We give to Thee all those who died or suffered in any way, along with their loved ones.  We remember also, those who continue to live with physical and mental disability.  May they all be healed and brought close to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  May we never forget them.  We also lift up to Thee, those responsible for  these horrific crimes against God and humanity.  May they be brought to repentance and mercy.

God bless the United States of America, and may we become once again, a nation respecting the laws of God, the sanctity of life and all human rights.  Lord have mercy upon us.

Amen.

Song:  Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,

and with fear and trembling stand;

ponder nothing earthly minded,

for, with blessing in His hand,

Christ our God to earth descendeth,

our full homage to demand.

King of Kings, yet born of Mary,

as of old on earth He stood,

Lord of Lords, in human vesture,

in the Body and the Blood.

He will give to all the faithful

His own Self for heav'nly food.

Rank on rank the host of Heaven

spreads its vanguard on the way,

as the Light of Light descendeth

from the realms of endless day,

that the pow'rs of Hell may vanish

as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged seraph,

cherubim with sleepless eye,

veil their faces to the Presence,

as with ceaseless voice they cry,

“Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, Lord Most High!”

(Picardy/Moultrie)

And Jesus being come out of the temple, went away. And his disciples came to shew him the buildings of the temple.  And he answering, said to them: Do you see all these things? Amen I say to you there shall not be left here a stone upon a stone that shall not be destroyed…Now all these are the beginnings of sorrows…And this gospel of the kingdom, shall be preached in the whole world, for a testimony to all nations, and then shall the consummation come…For there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be…And from the fig tree learn a parable: When the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh.  So you also, when you shall see all these things, know ye that it is nigh, even at the doors…Watch ye therefore, because ye know not what hour your Lord will come…Who, thinkest thou, is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath appointed over his family, to give them meat in season…Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come he shall find so doing.

Matthew 24

On that day 22 years ago, 2,996 people died and many more suffered, as Our Lady of Sorrows looked on from Heaven.  She continues to watch over her children with the love and compassion of her Immaculate Heart.  She understands the Foot of the Cross.  And she leads us to the joy of the Resurrection.  Death is never the end of the story.

The “candle” Saint Francis refers to is the soul illumined by the Light of Christ.  As the hymn states:  “…the Light of Light descendeth from the realms of endless day, that the pow'rs of Hell may vanish as the darkness clears away.”

Our Lord’s prophecy in this Gospel chapter refers to the End of Time.  We do not know where we are in that timeline, but it is clear that the world is changing.  Even if we are not at “The End,” the words above are still relevant to our times.  We are seeing unprecedented sorrows, the global reach of the Gospel and unnatural endeavors which have never been attempted before.  We are told to be watchful.  We are told to prepare and provide for those in our care.  If we heed these commands, we will be deemed “blessed” and win our heavenly reward!

Saints of September 11th, Protus, Hyacinth, Paphnutius and Adelphus…pray for us!
